Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This teaches us that Jesus’ sacrifice was not something He had to do, but something He chose to do out of love for everyone, even when people did not deserve it. The cross also helps us understand forgiveness and reconciliation with God. Colossians 1:20 says, “And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace with his blood, shed on the cross.” This means that through Jesus’ death, our sins are forgiven and we can be at peace with God. Another verse, Colossians 2:14, explains that Jesus canceled the charges against us, removing the punishment for our sins by nailing it to the cross. This restores our relationship with God and brings us peace. Finally, the cross calls Christians to follow Jesus and live a life of dedication. Luke 9:23 teaches, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” This isn’t about suffering for suffering’s sake, but about making a choice to live in obedience, self-denial, and service. The cross is also a symbol of victory over sin and death, as Colossians 2:15 states: “He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, Christians have victory over evil and have eternal life.
